چکیده

The rate control protocol (RCP) is a new network congestion control protocol which is designed to achieve smaller file completion times, fairness among flows competing for resources in the network and efficient use of available bandwidth. In this paper I show that the heuristic protocol, RCP performs well only for a specific scenario. I further derive an exact formula for a robust protocol which can perform well in any network scenario.

RCP-Planet: a rate control protocol for InterPlaNetary Internet

UDP traffic is a part of the aggregate traffic over InterPlaNetary Internet backbone links, which includes planet images and multimedia data from some scientific observations. Existing rate control schemes cannot solve the rate control problem in InterPlaNetary Internet which is characterized by extremely long propagation delays, high link errors, asymmetrical bandwidth, and blackouts. In this ...

RCP-AC: Congestion control to make flows

We believe that a congestion control algorithm should make flows finish quickly as quickly as possible, while staying stable and fair among flows. Recently, we proposed RCP (Rate Control Protocol) which enables typical Internet-sized flows to complete one to two orders of magnitude faster than the existing (TCP Reno) and the proposed (XCP) congestion control algorithm. Like XCP, RCP uses explic...

NCP: Finishing Flows Even More Quickly

The transmission control protocol (TCP) is the major transport layer protocol in the Internet today. TCP and its variants have the drawback of not knowing the explicit rate share of flows at bottleneck links. The Rate Control Protocol (RCP) is a major clean slate congestion control protocol which has been recently proposed to address these drawbacks. RCP tries to get explicit knowledge of flow ...

Performance comparison of router assisted congestion control protocols: XCP vs. RCP

In the current Internet, network overload is prevented by the congestion control of the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). The traditional TCP congestion control is an endto-end mechanism that suffers from some inherent shortcomings. A design alternative for the Future Internet is to use more feedback from the routers. Such router-assisted congestion control schemes can achieve a more efficie...
